The Law 14/2013, approved on September 27th 2013, aimed to attracting foreign investment to Spain , introduced for the first time residency visas and permits for non-EU investors: The Spain Golden Visa.
But not only these investors will be able to live and enjoy Spain for up to 5 years, but also the Golden Visa holder will be able to travel freely in the Schengen area for a maximum period of 90 days out of every 180 days.
Which are the general requirements to get the visa?
Not to have entered or stayed illegally in Spain, or been refused entry into any Schengen countries

· Have public or private health insurance valid in Spain.

What types of investments are allowed under the Golden Visa regulation?
1- Acquisition of Spanish real estate in the amount of or greater than €500,000 (free of charges and taxes). An investment in multiple properties and co-ownership would be allowed.
2- Investing at least €1,000,000 in shares of Spanish companies or depositing at least €1,000,000 into the Banking System.
3- Investment in Spanish Treasury Bonds of at least €2,000,000.
4- A business investment that at least leads to job creation, local economic impact or technological/scientific impact.
For how long is the Golden Visa valid? Once issued, the Investor Residency Visas will be valid for an initial period of 1 year and then, as long as the investment in Spain is maintained, could be renewed for subsequent periods of 2 years.In addition, any person that has held a valid temporary residency title for a period of at least 5 years can attain permanent residency or even Spanish citizenship if they have lived legal and effectively in Spain for five years. This means that the periods lived in Spain must be more than six consecutive months.
What is the Schengen Area?
The Schengen Area is a group of 26 European countries that have abolished passport and immigration controls at their common borders. With a resident permit from Spain, the investor is entitled to enter and travel freely throughout all the countries of the Schengen area. Investors can transit freely within the Schengen area for a maximum period of 90 days per half-year from the date of the first entry. The Schengen Area includes: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
Can any family members of the investor benefit from this regulation?
Yes, the Golden visa can be extended to family members as wife/husband, children under 18 years old or dependent children.
Is there any minimum stay requirement to renew visa?
No, investors only have to travel to Spain at least once during the validity of the visa.
Must I set my tax residency in Spain?
No, as long as you stay in Spain for a period less than 183 days per year.
Does the Golden Visa allow me to work?
Yes, with the Golden Visa you can live in Spain. Once you get the Investor Visa, you can apply for the Residence Authorization for investor that allows you to work.
How long is the applications process?
The investors visa applications will be solved in a period of ten working days, while the maximum period to solve the residence authorizations are 20 days since the submission of the application.
Does this Law have retroactive character?
No, the Law is only applicable to the investments carried out from the 29th of September 2013 onwards.
